Dr. Ira Katz, chief of mental health services for the Department of Veterans Affairs, sent an e-mail to a VA colleague this past February that read: الجيش الجمهوري الايرلندي الدكتور كاتز ، رئيس خدمات الصحة العقليه لادارة شؤون قدامى المحاربين ، وارسلت بالبريد الالكتروني الى زميل التحالف في شباط / فبراير الماضي ان يصبح نصها كما يلي :
“Shh! "SHH! Our suicide prevention coordinators are identifying about 1,000 suicide attempts per month among the veterans we see in our medical facilities. لدينا لمنع الانتحار منسقي تحديد حوالى 1000 فى الشهر محاولات الانتحار بين المحاربين القدامى ونحن نرى في مرافقنا الطبية. Is this something we should (carefully) address ourselves in some sort of release before somebody stumbles on it?” هل هذا شيء ينبغي لنا ان (بعناية) معالجة أنفسنا في نوع من الإفراج عن الزلات قبل شخص ما؟ "
Unfortunately for the government, somebody did “stumble” on it. ولسوء الحظ بالنسبة للحكومة ، هل هناك من "تتعثر". Dr. Katz lied about the numbers before the House of Representatives Veterans’ Affairs Committee, grossly understating the number of such suicide attempts. كذب الدكتور كاتز عن ارقام معروض على مجلس النواب شؤون المحاربين القدماء اللجنة ، بشكل فاضح تبخس عدد من هذه محاولات الانتحار. CBS News did its own extensive research, finding that more than 6,250 American veterans took their own lives in 2005 alone. سي بي اس الاخباريه لم الابحاث الخاصة بها على نطاق واسع ، وجدت أن أكثر من 6250 المحاربين القدماء الامريكية احاطت حياتهم الخاصة وحدها في عام 2005. That comes to slightly more than 17 suicides every day. ان يأتي الى ما يزيد قليلا عن 17 حالات الانتحار كل يوم.
Most of the data was obtained by discovery in the case of Veterans for Common Sense v. The litigation against Veterans Affairs Secretary James Peake is uncovering more than the familiar amalgam of government secrecy, cover-up and deception by still another federal agency. التقاضي في شؤون قدامى المحاربين ضد الامين جيمس peake هو الكشف عن المألوف اكثر من مزيج من الحكومة السرية والتستر والخداع من جانب آخر لا تزال الوكالة الاتحادية.
The Department of Veterans Affairs is vital to the protection and support of our troops. ادارة شؤون قدامى المحاربين امر حيوي لحمايه ودعم قواتنا. This support has carried an implied exception, namely cost-cutting for veterans’ health care after they have served their country. هذا الدعم قامت استثناء ضمني ، وهي خفض التكاليف لقدامى المحاربين والرعايه الصحية بعد ان يكونوا قد خدموا بلدهم.
The Veterans for Common Sense lawsuit has already demonstrated that the VA intentionally misled Congress and the public about the epidemic of veterans’ suicides. لقدامى المحاربين في دعوى الحس السليم وقد اثبت ان التحالف عمدا للتضليل الكونغرس والجمهور حول هذا الوباء من قدامى المحاربين الانتحار. Here are the facts squeezed out of the government to date: وهنا وقائع عصره وخرج من الحكومة التاريخ :
- 120 veterans commit suicide every week. 120 المحاربين القدامى الانتحار كل اسبوع.
- 1,000 veterans attempt suicide while in VA care every month. 1000 المحاربين القدماء في حين ان محاولة الانتحار في التحالف الرعايه كل شهر.
- Nearly one in five service members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan (approximately 300,000) have post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms or major depression. ما يقرب من واحد من كل خمسة أفراد الخدمة العائدين من العراق وافغانستان (حوالي 300000) قد الاضطرابات النفسية اللاحقه للاصابة او اعراض الاكتئاب الرئيسية.
- 19 percent of post-Iraq and Afghanistan veterans have been diagnosed with possible traumatic brain injury, according to a Rand Corp. Study in April. 19 في المئة من مرحلة ما بعد العراق وافغانستان والمحاربين القدماء تم تشخيص اصابات الدماغ الرضحيه ممكن ، وفقا لدراسة شركة راند في نيسان / ابريل.
- A higher percentage of these veterans suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder than from any previous war because of “stop loss” or an involuntary extension of service in the military (58,300), multiple tours, greater prevalence of brain injuries, etc. نسبة مءويه اعلى من قدامى المحاربين يعانون من هذه الاضطرابات النفسية اللاحقه للاصابة اكثر من اي حرب سابقة لجهة "وقف الخسارة" او غير الطوعي في تمديد الخدمة العسكرية (58300) ، والجولات المتعددة ، وزيادة انتشار الاصابات الدماغيه ، الخ.
The Veterans for Common Sense case has already uncovered widespread breakdown of the VA’s health care for veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. قدامى المحاربين من اجل القضية المشتركة الشعور بالفعل على نطاق واسع وكشف انهيار التحالف الرعايه الصحية لقدامى المحاربين الذين يعانون من الاضطرابات النفسية اللاحقه للاصابة. The Rand Corp. study demonstrates that, in addition to the 300,000 Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans diagnosed with PTSD, an additional 320,000 have sustained physical brain damage resulting from traumatic brain injury. راند دراسة يدل على ان شركة ، بالإضافة إلى 300000 والعراق وافغانستان للمحاربين القدماء تشخيص PTSD ، 320000 اضافي لها في الدماغ المادي المتواصل الاضرار الناجمة عن اصابات الدماغ الرضحيه. A majority of these injured GIs are receiving no help from the Defense Department or the VA, which are more concerned with covering up such unpleasant facts than providing care and paying disability pensions. اغلبيه هذه الجرحى نظم المعلومات الجغرافية يتلقون اي مساعدة من وزارة الدفاع او التحالف ، التي هي أكثر اهتماما للتغطية على هذه الحقائق غير الساره من توفير الرعايه ودفع معاشات العجز.
The Rand Corp. study concludes: شركة راند وتخلص الدراسه الى :
“Individuals afflicted with these conditions face higher risk for other psychological problems and for attempting suicide. "الافراد المصابه مع هذه الظروف لمواجهة مخاطر اكبر من مشاكل نفسية وأخرى لمحاولة الانتحار. They have higher rates of unhealthy behaviors — such as smoking, overeating and unsafe sex — and higher rates of physical health problems and mortality. لديهم معدلات أعلى للسلوك غير صحي -- مثل التدخين ، والممارسات الجنسيه غير المامونه الاتخام -- ومعدلات أعلى من المشاكل الصحية الجسديه والوفيات. … These conditions can impair relationships, disrupt marriages, aggravate the difficulties of parenting, and cause problems in children that may extend consequences of combat trauma across generations.” … هذه الظروف يمكن ان تضعف العلاقات وتعطيل الزواج ، وتفاقم الصعوبات التي تواجهها الابوه والامومه ، ويسبب مشاكل في الاطفال يمكن ان تمتد آثار الصدمات النفسية للمكافحة عبر الاجيال. The Defense Department’s Task Force on Mental Health has begun to recognize “daunting and growing” psychological problems among our troops. وزارة الدفاع للفرقة العمل المعنية بالصحه النفسية وبدأت تعترف "رهيبه والمتزايد" من مشاكل نفسية بين قواتنا. Nearly 40 percent of our soldiers, a third of our Marines, and half of the National Guard members are presenting with serious mental health issues. ما يقرب من 40 ٪ من جنودنا ، وثالث من المارينز ، والنصف الآخر من اعضاء الحرس الوطنى مع عرض قضايا الصحة النفسية الخطيره.

These are the real costs of وهذه هي التكاليف الحقيقية لل President Bush الرئيس بوش ’s misbegotten and mismanaged wars. 'نغل وسوء ادارة الحروب. These are the costs that the administration seeks to hide while it attempts to make the test of patriotism the wearing of flag pins in our lapels! وهذه هي التكاليف التي يمكن ان الادارة تسعى الى اخفاء ولئن كان يحاول ان يجعل من التجارب الوطنية ارتداء دبابيس العلم في منطقتنا التلابيب!
It’s what is underneath those flag pins that really matters. وهو ما هو تحت العلم دبابيس ان يهم فعلا. It is called compassion. ومن دعا الى الرحمه. It is real patriotism as opposed to the fraud of “Mission Accomplished” and promises of victory. ومن وطنية حقيقية بدلا من الاحتيال "المهمة انجزت" وعود من النصر.
