Rio Vista Resort on Lake LBJ

CyberCelt | August 14, 2009 in Cabins/Cottages, Campground Reviews, Condos & Villas, Lakes, RV Parks, RV Travel | Comments (3)

The first week of our vacation, we stayed on Lake LBJ in Kingsland. We really loved the location of the Rio Vista Resort, which is two blocks off FM 1431 and waterfront on Lake LBJ. This would be a perfect place if you have a boat or jetski; there were boat docks, including lifts right on the lake. The waterfront cabins, condos and even mobile homes were nice and for rent. The pool and grounds were tropical. Unfortunately, the RV spaces were very close. You can see in the last photograph that we were almost bumping slides with our neighbors. It was a beautiful, clean and quiet location. The couple who owned the resort were nice. We paid $185 for one week for 4-way hookups.

Maui is an Island of Dreams

CyberCelt | June 24, 2007 in Beach, Condos & Villas, Hike/Bike/Run, Other States | Comments (2)

Maui is one of the most beautiful of the Hawaiian Islands. While Maui is more developed than all the other islands other than Oahu, it is still possible to find a pristine beach with perfect waves for bodysurfing. Find the Hawaii of your dreams with Maui Vacations.

Many people fly into airport and then drive to Kaanapali, the resort area on the northwest coast. While this is a beautiful area, the lesser known beaches of Maui will amaze you. My favorite beaches are on the west coast of Maui, below Kihea. Makena Beach is a long sandy beach that is best visited during the week. If you must visit on the weekend, look for the pathway to a smaller beach area called Little Beach.

What can you do on Maui? Journey to the summit of Haleakala, the highest peak on Maui and a volcano, for a sunrise to remember. You may also bike down the mountain, passing through several ecosystems on the way down. Bring your winter coat, for it is 10,000+ feet above sea level and cold at the summit.

Situated on the slopes of Haleakala, Lani Nui Ranch offers beautiful two bedroom, 1 bath 1000 sf guest house located on a small secluded 4 acre horse property in Kula.

Explore the Kanaio Sea Caves by raft and snorkel at La Perouse Bay. If you would like to participate in a real undersea adventure, take a ride in an Atlantis Submarine. Nancy Emerson, a former world champion surfer with more than 30 years experience, has created surfing lessons that covers the total surfing experience.

Stay close to the beach at the Hale Hui Kai, a Hawaiian style condominium located on the sunny south shore of Maui, overlooking a spectacular golden sand beach.

From Rain Forest to Ranch Country

CyberCelt | May 20, 2007 in Beach, Cabins/Cottages, Condos & Villas, Hotels, Nature, Other States, Travel Sites Reviews | Comments (3)

When someone says “Hawaii,” most people think of Honolulu, which is a city on Oahu, one of the major islands that compose Hawaii. The other Hawaiian Islands are Hawaii, Kauai, Nihau, Maui, Lanai, Kahoolawe and Molokai.

Hawaii, also called the Big Island, is the youngest island in the Hawaiian Islands. It is twice the size of all the other islands combined. Formed by five volcanoes, the island of Hawaii still has two active volcanoes, Mauna Loa and Kilauea. You may view the active volcanoes by air or by visiting the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

Hawaii is the most diverse of all the islands. The annual rainfall in Hilo is over 250 inches per year, making this area a tropical rain forest. Many visitors are drawn to the natural beauty found at higher elevations on Hawaii, where you may see snow between September and January. Yet other travelers enjoy the black sand beaches. Black sand is actually small, smooth, lava pebbles.

The accommodations below were found on Hilo Vacation Rentals, sponsor of this post. These rentals range from $100-$150 per night, VERY reasonable for rentals in Hawaii. Am I planning a trip to Hawaii? Always!

The Cottage at Kapoho

The Cottage at Kapoho is a small one bedroom cabin with deck and lanai. From the deck you can watch the ocean. Relax in a hammock shaded by plumeria trees. The cottage is complete with kitchen, outside BBQ and picnic table. Within walking distance of Kapoho Bay and a geothermal heated pond.

Waimea Country Lodge

Waimea Country Lodge, a motel in the high country, sits at the base of the dormant volcano Mauna Kea. The rooms are all mountain view and the altitude means the weather is cool. The hotel is within walking distance of historic Waimea town, part of the cattle ranch economy of the past.

Hilo Hawaiian Hotel

The Hilo Hawaiian Hotel on Hilo Bay has views of Coconut Island, the dormant volcano Mauna Kea and, of course, Hilo Bay. This is a perfect place to explore the eastern side of the Island of Hawaii.
