The Run: 5K of level to rolling terrain inside Comanche Trail park

The park in which this is held is family friendly and includes a Kid Zone, golf course, tennis courts, hike and bike trail and a small camping area.

RV Parks in Area:

Lake Colorado City State Park - We have stayed in this park and it is nice. Bring your fishing pole! The park has campsites with water hook-ups and campsites with water and electrical hook-ups. 50-amp electric service hook-up for RVs available for an additional fee. In addition, the park has 11 Limited Use Cabins (waterfront) with small refrigerator, microwave, sleep 4 people, A/C, heat, ceiling fan, shutters, picnic table on a covered porch, fire ring and grill.

Moss Lake - RV Park/Campground offers full hook-up (includes water, sewer, and electricity) and half hook-up (water and electricity). A dump station is also provided. Overnight camping by permit is allowed throughout the facility.

Well, summer is drawing to an end. Sleepy San Marcos has gone from about 40,000 people to over 70,000 in a matter of days as the Texas State University - San Marcos students move back into town.

Another sign that summer is ending is the Austin City Limits Music Festival has published the tentative line up of musicians to perform September 26-28 at Zilker Park on Lady Bird Lake.

Sampling of Musicians - there are 130 acts featured on eight stages at the 7th annual Austin City Limits Music Festival - Beck. Robert Plant & Allison Krauss. The Foo Fighters. Erykah Badu. The Raconteurs.

RV Parks in Austin:

Austin Lonestar RV Park- 5 miles south of downtown on the East side of I-35.

Austin Oak Forest RV Park - 10 minutes from downtown Austin, the University of Texas and the State Capitol. Located east of IH-35 by Decker Lake.

Emma Long Metropolitan Park - on Lake Austin. Some RV slips available. Camping, swimming. Located off FM 2222.

McKinney Falls State Park - Southeast of Austin on Onion Creek. Water and electric sites available. These are not pull through sites and an RV with 2 slides may not fit. Call park for information.

Plum Creek RV - Large sites. Located on IH-35, 12 miles from Austin and 4 miles from San Marcos.

Food, beverages and merchandise vendors will be available to visit between races. Coolers, pets, umbrellas and personal golf carts are not allowed on festival grounds. Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Tickets on sale now.  Visit the website for more information.

If you have been to a race track, multiply the noise by 100 and you have the sound of 120 jet boats warming up. Bring ear protection to tone down the roar of the large engines for everyone, but especially children and babies who may become frightened of the noise.

Port Aransas

Port Aransas is an island paradise tucked away on the Gulf Coast, reached by car ferry from Aransas Pass or by driving up Mustang Island from Corpus Christi. Port Aransas is the only town on Mustang Island and inhabits 8 miles of the 18-mile long barrier island. Everything moves on Island Time in Port Aransas, so relax and enjoy all that this Texas treasure has to offer.

The bays, jetties and deep Gulf waters offer the finest fishing around. Take an excursion for sport fishing, spearfishing or scuba diving. Grab the Jetty Boat to St. Jo Island for a few hours or the day. Sign up for a sunset cruise, a gambling or a dolphin encounter.

Visit the Fennessey Ranch, 4,000 acres of wetlands, meadows and natural lakes for discovery and photography. More than 500 species of birds visit annually, making Port A one of the most popular birding destinations in Texas.

Rent a bike or electric buggie to zip around the town. Kayak, kite board or surf. Build a sandcastle or just lay back and relax the temperate climate. Remember, you are on island time.

RVers will love Port Aransas. Some of the RV parks in Port A are right on the beach. Others are located inland within walking distance to restaurants or on the trolley route. Some offer amenities like pools, wi-fi and cable.

Texas Cowboy Reunion and Rodeo

The Texas Cowboy Reunion and Rodeo corrals about 500 cowboys from all over the Southwest and Texas for the world’s largest amateur rodeo. Rodeo prizes include cash, trophies and handmade saddles. Dance beneath the stars to live country, western swing and honky tonk music. Enjoy the fiddler contests, Western art show and cowboy poetry. Sample food served from chuck wagons.If this does not sound exciting enough, take a look at the Wild Mare Racing event.

Camping and RVing Notes:

Stamford Park (325/773-2411) has picnic sites, camping areas with hook-ups, cabins and a fishing house. Silo Scott Memorial Park (940/864-3779) has picnic and camping areas with hook-ups.

Lake Stamford is a 4,690-acre lake that is popular for fishing, boating, water skiing and some of the best fishing around. It is a power plant lake, so the fishing is good in the winter as well.

Make sure you visit the Texas Cowboy Museum  located at 113 S. Wetherbee Street, across from the Chamber of Commerce. View original paintings and prints by noted cowboy artists; farm and ranch artifacts from early 20th century, including living room/kitchen and blacksmith shop. The museum is open Monday to Friday from 8 am until 5 pm.

The Stamford Centennial Monument ?was sculpted by Throckmorton artist Joe Barrington, This 15-foot tall sculpture of a cowboy on a bucking horse crossing a railroad track was unveiled June 2000.
