Have You Ever Seen a Turkey Trot?

The Cuera TurkeyTrot started in 1912. In 1908, raising and processing turkey became THE agricultural activity in DeWitt County. The farmers and buyers herded their turkeys down country roads and through the city streets to the packing house. This activity brought many people to town, year after year, to see all the turkeys walking down Main Street. Eventually, the turkey trot became a tourism attraction and was turned into a festival.
37th Annual Cuero Turkeyfest October 9, 10 & 11, 2009

Today, raising turkeys is no longer the lifeblood of this area of Texas, but the TurkeyTrot, now known as the TurkeyFest, lives on. This festival has fun for everyone. Dances and live entertainment, food, beer, arts & crafts, contests, turkey Olympics, chili cook-off, BBQ cook-off, Texas Wheel Spinners Tractor Show, dutch oven cooking and living history display. Kids will enjoy the kiddie parade and carnival. On Sunday, October 11, from 1-4 pm is Family Fun Day, a safe environment where families can spend the day together at a minimal cost.

Lindsey-turkeys are aggressive AND ugly. LOL
V-They have lots of turkeys at the trot, but most of them are cooked in the chili! They do have a race (turkey trot).
OMG that is SOO awesome. Turkeys actually kind of scare me. I had one land on my car WHILE i was driving (not very fast) and I had to pull over and try and shoo it off.. but it wouldn’t leave!
I think that many turkeys in one place might scare me a little
Lindsay´s last blog ..The PetRageous and All Pets Club Fashion show was a hit!
It’s hard to believe the farmed turkey came out of the those wild ones…. Do they still have turkeys at the festival?
