Annual spring-blooming wildflowers usually germinate in the fall. Texas had scant rainfall last fall and winter, so this will not be a banner year for wildflowers.

If you are going to take a roadtrip to view wildflowers, make sure you check the following sources for local information.

The Texas Department of Transportation maintains a Wildflower and Fall Foliage database and they are developing  a map viewer so you may see where the flowers are blooming. Not a computer person, call the Wildflower Hotline (800-452-9292, press 2). Currently, there are 60 active flora sightings reported across Texas.

Visit Wildflower Haven Community for information on wildflower events, routes and reports.

Lone Star Net maintains a website with photographs of native Texas wildflowers.
