Willie Nelson Turns 75 Today
Willie Nelson is one of those larger than life Texans. Say what you will about his lifestyle or his hair, he has been there for farmers, for small business owners, for truck drivers, for environmentalists and for his hometown church members in Abbott, Texas.
I just finished reading and excerpt from Willie Nelson : An Epic Life by Joe Nick Patoski. Willie grew up in Abbott, Texas. When Willie heard that the Methodist Church in Abbott was for sale and likely to be torn down, he purchased the building and restored the church to the people of Abbott. In July of 2006, Willie and his sister, Bobbie Lee, dedicated the church. They witnessed and sang to an audience of 300.
Happy Birthday, Willie. God bless you.

Willie’s looking old… but the music is very Young… he is impressing a lot with his music… such a great musician…

@drew-Having Willie almost makes up for us sending Bush to the White House. LOL
@babs-Yes, he is a Christian and sings many songs about it.
@kaile-Willie Nelson was country. He went to Nashville and wrote many songs you have heard. Then he came back to Texas and grew his hair long to blur the edges between country and rock. He started the whole “outlaw” movement in Austin and had/has a lot to do with the music being in Austin. He is also an actor (see Red Haired Stranger).
@greenville-Thanks!
@gillian-He is so diverse. He has partnered with all sorts of people and never fails to amaze me.
You can’t have a good party time without at least one of his songs ;)

Happy Birthday Willie! I love him!
In all the years I’ve been alive I don’t think I’ve ever heard him sing. lol. I’ve heard lots about him but if you were to day his name (without showing me his picture) I wouldn’t of known what he looked like. He’s like old school country right?
I’ll have to look him up on itunes one of these days.

That was very interesting. I didn’t realise he was that old. What a lovely Christian, thing to do to buy the church that way.
I love Willie. I love his cameo in the Toby Keith “Beer for my Horses” song and video. Willie is awesome.
