LakeFest 2007
August 10-12, 2007
Lakeside and Johnson Parks in Marble Falls, Texas

If you like fast boats, then mark your calendars for August 10-12, 2007. This is the 16th year that the Marble Falls/Lake LBJ Chamber of Commerce has hosted LakeFest, which is held in Lakeside and Johnson Parks in Marble Falls, Texas.

Gates open bright and early on Saturday at 7 am for qualifying races that last until 8 pm. Sunday at 7 am, the gates open and opening ceremonies begin at 11 am. Top-fuel boats thrill crowds with astonishing speeds that can top 240 miles per hour. Awards are presented after the boat races conclude.

Food, beverages and merchandise vendors will be available to visit between races. Coolers, pets, umbrellas and personal golf carts are not allowed on festival grounds. Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Tickets on sale now.

This is a fun event that used to be held in Austin, Texas on Town Lake (the Colorado River). The noise was too much for residents of the area, so the event was moved to Marble Falls. The noise level has not changed. It is horrific. If you have been to a race track, multiply the noise by 100 and you have the sound of 120 jet boats warming up. Bring ear protection to tone down the roar of the large engines for everyone, but especially children and babies who may become frightened of the noise.

It is hotter than you know where in Texas in August. Bring sunscreen, hats, water bottles with misters and portable fans. Bring a little shade for young ones. Visit the website for more information. If you are attending, plan early (hence, this post). This is a popular event and you will want to get accommodations booked early.
