You are Going to Drive Me to Drinking …

… if you don’t stop driving that hotrod Lincoln!

My second car was a 1968 Lincoln Continental. It was a beautiful Turquoise color with black top and suicide doors. However, I purchased it used and was naive at the time. A friend introduced me to his friend who had Used Cars For Sale. When I went to the lot there was nothing I wanted. Then the owner of the lot drove up in this Lincoln. Just one look, that is all it took!

I wanted that car. I did not ask any questions and did not have the car checked out by a mechanic before signing my life away. I was so stupid. The owner told me the brake light was on because he had gone through some water and it must have done something to the sensor. DUH! I found out that the brake indicator was lit for the very reason for which it had been invented: the brakes were bad.

A few weeks later, I was driving down one of those hilly roads in Austin and I pressed the brake pedal to slow down. The pedal went all the way to the floor! I wound up on a curb in a park in the dark. To make matters worse, I tried backing the car off the curb and dropped the drive shaft.

I left the car and walked to a friend’s house to call for a tow. By the time I got back the police were there and they had my car towed and were looking for me for leaving the scene of an accident! What a horror story. Do not buy a car from a friend of a friend or from a used car lot.

If you need a good used car, search LemonFree.com, sponsor of this post. They have all types of cars, such as the Honda CRV, Toyota RAV4 and the Nissan Altima, my personal favorite.

@drew – sorry I have been struck by the sidebar syndrome and you were lost, but now you are found!

@karen – girl, that car was so pretty. By the time I traded it in, the a/c did not work, none of the windows would roll up or down (you had to pull them up with your hands), but it still was a beauty.

I loved reading how you had bought a really cool car. I’d love to have a car like that. Sorry it gave you a bad time tho.
