Dubai has a lot in common with Texas

This time of year, tourists flock to Dubai to enjoy luxury accomodations and attractions. Above is a picture of the Burj al Arab, a world class hotel shaped like a spinnaker sail that dominates the Dubai coastline.

The three largest man-made islands in the world, visible from outer space, are in varying stages of construction. When completed, they will all take the shape of a date palm tree: trunk topped with a crown of fronds and surrounded by a crescent-shaped breakwater. I thought things were big in Texas, but on the website of Dubai Venture, the sponsor of this post, I saw a privately owned 40-story residence. Now that is big!

Dubai is the second largest emirate of the United Arab Emirates and home to the Jebel Ali free trade zone. The international city in dubai, located near the International Airport, is a mixture of business, residential and tourism attractions. There is a theme park called Dubailand planned, too.

Dubai is hot, so the winter season is when you will want to journey there (like Texas). Dubai has diversified their economy to where oil production is only six percent of Dubai’s gross national product. There are no taxes and tourism is king. Sounds like Texas… I wish.
