Galveston Beckons from the Texas Coast
Galveston, Texas is a world-class travel destination. Located on the Texas coast, Galveston is not all fun and sun. Notice the windows that begin below street level? After a huge hurricane in 1900, the city raised itself and its buildings by 10 feet.
My favorite places to go in Galveston are the Strand Landmark Historic District and the Railroad Museum. The Strand is the setting of many events during the year, like Dickens’ Christmas and the Mardi Gras Celebration. Other times, it is a place to shop or dine.
The Railroad Museum is a wonderful place located in the original 1932 Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe depot. There are white statues of people as they must have looked in yesteryears: sitting on the bench, getting a shoeshine, waiting on a train. It is a hands on museum, so the kids will love climbing into the train cars and playing in a caboose.
There are many places to stay on Galveston Island. I prefer to rent a home, so we can relax and have some room for privacy. Also, if you rent a home, you may cook your own meals to keep within your dietary restrictions and save money.
I found a wonderful home at Point West Resort on the website of Galveston vacation rentals, the sponsor of this post. Sound good? See you in Galveston!
