Pardon me if I borrow from a well known song written and sung by Gary P. Nunn (and many others throughout the years).
You ask me what I like about Texas …
I tell you it’s the wide open spaces!
Its everything between the Sabine and the Rio Grande.
Its the Llano Estacado,
Its the Brazos and the Colorado;
The spirit of the people down here who share this land!
Its another burrito, it’s a cold Lone Star in my hand!
Its a quarter for the jukebox, boys,
Play the Sons of the Mother Lovin’ Bunkhouse Band!
Its the big timber up around Nacogdoches!
Its driving El Camino Real into San Antone;
Its the Riverwalk and Mi Tierra,
Dancing to the Cotton-eyed Joe,
Its stories of the Menger Hotel and the Alamo!
(You remember the Alamo!)
Its another burrito, it’s a cold Lone Star in my hand!
Its a quarter for the jukebox, boys,
Play the Sons of the Mother Lovin’ Bunkhouse Band!
Hey, you ask me what I like about Texas!
Its Bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrushes;
Swimming in the sacred waters of Barton Springs,
Its body surfing the Frio,
Its Saturday night in Del Rio!
Driving across the border for some cultural exchange!
Its another burrito, it’s a cold Lone Star in my hand!
Its a quarter for the jukebox, boys,
Play the Sons of the Mother Lovin’ Bunkhouse Band!

Please read this excerpt from the article God’s Country: For Sale:
Texans have a special attachment to our land. From the Big Bend to Sabine Pass, we are justly proud — of our mountains and rolling hill country, our winding rivers, our clean lakes, bays, and estuaries. As Texans, we are proud of our public land and protective of the private property we have worked so hard to own.
Why, then, is Rick Perry so keen on selling off our public land to individuals and foreign companies? Rick Perry is so proud of Texas he is selling it.
Recently, Texas Parks & Wildlife warned that budget cutbacks ordered by Perry might require the sale or closure of 18 state parks. Also, Parks & Wildlife transferred 12,000 acres of the Black Gap Wildlife Area in Big Bend to the General Land Office so it can be sold.
Please watch the film and then ask Governor Rick Perry and Jerry Paterson at the General Land Office to preserve Texas. This is just one event in a long line of outrageous actions by our government to sell off our public lands and national parks. Please, do not let them sell our heritage and our public lands. Take action today!

Summer to me has always included a trip to Blue Hole, one of my favorite swimming holes. Cypress Creek is spring-fed and lined with towering Cypress trees. There is always at least one rope swing in action …
Surrounding the swimming hole are 126 acres of natural forests and native grass fields that have remained untouched for decades. Blue Hole is located in the Village of Wimberley.
Threatened by residential development, the status of Blue Hole has been in limbo as various groups tried to raise money to purchase it for parkland. These groups have succeeded and Blue Hole is open once again. Enjoy Blue Hole Sunday through Thursday, 10 am-6 pm and Friday and Saturday, 10 am-8 pm. Here is a link to the map to Blue Hole.
For those people that believe dreams can come true and work tirelessly to make sure that they do, I would just like to say THANK YOU for saving Blue Hole. It would not be summer time in Texas without a dip in the crystal clear refreshing waters of Cypress Creek.
