My Favorite Things (About Texas)

Pardon me if I borrow from a well known song written and sung by Gary P. Nunn (and many others throughout the years).

You ask me what I like about Texas …

I tell you it’s the wide open spaces!
Its everything between the Sabine and the Rio Grande.
Its the Llano Estacado,
Its the Brazos and the Colorado;
The spirit of the people down here who share this land!

Its another burrito, it’s a cold Lone Star in my hand!
Its a quarter for the jukebox, boys,
Play the Sons of the Mother Lovin’ Bunkhouse Band!

Its the big timber up around Nacogdoches!
Its driving El Camino Real into San Antone;
Its the Riverwalk and Mi Tierra,
Dancing to the Cotton-eyed Joe,
Its stories of the Menger Hotel and the Alamo!
(You remember the Alamo!)

Its another burrito, it’s a cold Lone Star in my hand!
Its a quarter for the jukebox, boys,
Play the Sons of the Mother Lovin’ Bunkhouse Band!

Hey, you ask me what I like about Texas!
Its Bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrushes;
Swimming in the sacred waters of Barton Springs,
Its body surfing the Frio,
Its Saturday night in Del Rio!
Driving across the border for some cultural exchange!

Its another burrito, it’s a cold Lone Star in my hand!
Its a quarter for the jukebox, boys,
Play the Sons of the Mother Lovin’ Bunkhouse Band!

    When I am perusing blogs, I find myself in tune with the Texas bloggers. I’ve not done a check, but I bet a decent percentage of places I go are Texas blogs.

    Thanks for sharing the song.

    Texas does sound a lot of fun. I have a couple blogging buddies in Texas. Hope I make it there one day…

    Hmmm, you “cheated” on your blog, too ;). I’ve never been to Texas, but it’s just a matter of time…Hey, we just lost our pastor to a church in Texas (our loss is your gain).

    I don’t know the song, so can you hum a few bars?

    Visiting from the BCs :)

    You make me want to go or have a beer, I can’t decide :-) I’ve always wanted to go but my husband never wanted to. I guess I’ll have to go sometime without him.

    A displaced Texan here–I love the fact that all Texans love it and have “native pride” about a state, not a country. There’s no place like it. Oh, yeah, and Tex-Mex, that’s what I really love. And the cost of living is excellent.

    We both must’ve been singing when we wrote for these! I don’t know this song, but you enlightened a lot on Texas! I enjoyed it!

    In our grams diary of the trips that she and pops took in their little travel trailor she wrote this little item about Texas:

    the sun has riz, the sun has set.
