Gas Scam at Pumps
This is a true story that happened to a friend of mine who will remain nameless. She did check with the Dept. of Agricultural and it is a real concern.
On April 24, 2008, I stopped at a Exxon gas station, located at Balcones Drive and Parkcrest Street , Austin , Texas my truck’s gas gauge was on 1/4 of a tank. I use the mid-grade, which was priced at $3.71 per gallon. When my tank is at this point, it takes somewhere around 14 gallons to fill it up. When the pump showed 14 gallons had been pumped I began to slow it down, then to my surprise it went to 15, then 16. I even looked under my truck to see if it was being spilled. It was not. Then it showed 17 gallons had been pumped. It stopped at almost 18 gallons. This was very strange to me, since my truck has only an 18-gallon tank. I went on my way a little confused, then on the evening news, I heard a report that 1 out of 4 gas stations had calibrated their pumps to show more gas had been pumped than a person actually got.
Here is how to check a pump to see if you are getting the right amount: Whichever grade you are using, put EXACTLY 10 GALLONS in your tank, then look at the dollar amount, if the dollar amount is not EXACTLY 10 times the price of the fuel you have chosen, then the pumps are rigged. In my case as I said the mid-grade was $3.71 9/10 per gallon, my dollar amount for 10 gallons should have been $37.19. If I had only check the pump. It doesn’t matter where you pump gas, please check the 10-gallon price. If you do find a station that is cheating, contact the Texas Department of Agriculture, and direct your comments to Todd Staples, Commissioner (512-463-7476). In other states contact proper authorities.
Remember to report them to the authorities. DO NOT take matters into your own hands, even if you have a rifle handy! LOL

Using Credit Wisely
I am the credit card queen. I have an Excel spreadsheet on which I keep track of our credit cards, interest rates, special offers and debt. I visited a website called CreditCardClub that provides credit card reviews. You may find just the card you need on this site. Whether you want a card with no annual fee, low-interest rate, 0% introductory rate, cash-back option, airline mile or gasoline rewards, you will find it. They also offer information on business credit cards as well.
We have a gasoline reward credit card that pays us cash back on the first $100 of gasoline or automotive repairs and maintenance each month. We receive cash back for other purchases, but it is the gasoline reward that sold us on this card. We fill up our truck and our car once a month and receive cash back!
I do not recommend getting into credit card debt, but if you pay off your bill monthly, you may find some deals on this website that allow you to float your debt for 25-30 days. The site is easy to use and they have done all the work. My next credit card is going to be an airline mileage reward card. I have almost enough air miles for two round trip tickets to Hawaii and Kauai is definitely on my “bucket list.”

Family Fish in Texas State Parks
Texas Parks and Wildlife encourages family friendly activities. For the past few years, Family Fish has been the main thrust of this goal as the park system continues to waive the fishing license and stamp requirements for ANYONE fishing inside its environs. All you have to do is pay the park entrance fee. Or, if you use the State Parks system often, buy a State Parks Pass and your entrance is free. Fishing regulations, such as size and weight limits, are enforced. Here is a listing of all the Texas State Parks that require no fishing license as part of Family Fish.
With the price of gas approaching $5 per gallon, we may not take that long road trip we had planned. However, with more than 70 state parks participating in Free Fishing in State Parks events, we can visit a local state park for a day trip. Have a picnic, swim, hike and fish!

The colors of the sky are reflected in the shiny sided Airstream. I love this picture because it shows how close the outdoors are when you are traveling in an RV. You are much more aware of the sky and the wildlife. The focus in an RV is outward.
