Visit the Painted Churches of Fayette County

Painted Church in Praha, outside Schulenburg, Texas The physical manifestation of the beauty and reverence of long ago German, Czech and Wend settlers is as impressive today as in 1800s, when the small farming communities of High Hill, Praha, Ammannsville, Dubina and Freyburg commissioned artists to paint their simple wooden churches.

These artists, remembering the grand and gothic cathedrals of Europe, created a lasting monument to the glory of God, the Painted Churches of Fayette County.

For map and self-guided directions, please visit the Journeys page on USAer.com.

The Painted Churches are located within 15 miles of Schulenburg, Texas, and you may either find them on your own or take a guided tour. These churches stand in stark contrast to Spanish mission style of church found elsewhere in Texas.

The Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce will help you arrange for a tour of the Painted Churches of Fayette County. You may also call toll free (866) 504-5294 for information.

How Do They Know I am From Texas?

Have you gone to a website where the greeting changes to, “Hello, to all visitors from [state name]” when you view the page? Or maybe you have logged into a website located in Australia, where they knew it was lunch time in your part of the world? How do they do this? How does eBay know to load their English version of their auction site, rather than the Japanese? Geolocation.

Geolocation by IP address is the technique of determining a user’s geographic latitude and longitude; which, in turn, provides the city, region and nation by comparing the user’s IP address with known IP locations of Internet servers and routers.

Other possible applications for geolocation by IP address exist for blogs, chat programs, user communities, forums, distributed computing environments, security, urban mapping and network configurations.

Determining geographic locations using Internet Protocol(IP)addresses offers improved capabilities to web users. When you search, your IP address may be read so that local stores are returned first, after the paid ads, that is. When you type your zip code into a weather website to get your local weather, you are using a form of geolocation.

RVers may use this technology to find free campgrounds. Geolocation is a sign of the times in which we live. Do you want to know your geolocation? Find your lat/long here at GeoCode. Then, locate free camping using the database at Boondocking.org.

Probably the most important use of geolocation is for online security. If you bank on line, you may be asked to prove your identity by providing a PIN that is sent to your email account on file with the bank. This is triggered by your login which is identified as being from an IP address that is different than your normal one.

Find your IP address here at WebYield.net. This works even if you have a firewall and security. Scary, isn’t it?

Keep your wheels on the road!

Alternative Energy Page Added to USAer.com

I have added an information page on alternative energy to USAer.com.

Here are some hightlights, but please visit for downloadable ebooks and lots of information.

Since biodiesel is made in the USA from renewable resources such as soybeans, its use decreases our dependence on foreign oil and contributes to our own economy.

Fuel cells are now available as an alternative source for renewable energy.

Solar power is ideal for keeping your batteries fully charged while parked.

Free and efficient energy–whether generated from running water, sunshine, wind, differences in temperature, or chemical reaction–is a gift from God. Yet, we turn our eyes from this bounty and continue to pursue energy that pollutes our rivers and air, desecrates the landscape, and holds us hostage to its use.
