Wild Flowers Blooming in the Texan Desert Now!

September is the perfect time to visit Big Bend National Park. Desert plants display their most profuse flowering in late summer, following the regular rains of July and August. Big Bend National Park, over 800,000 acres, encompasses the largest protected area of the Chihuahuan Desert and the only complete mountain range within a National Park in the United States. The boundary on the south is the Rio Grande River and the international border with Mexico.

The National Park site is your source for regional information, park maps and links to other resources.

This is a great site that includes an interactive map of the area and a link to virtual tours: Visit Big Bend

Do not forget this wonderful website, complete with pictures of Big Bend, discussed on prior post : American Southwest

The only campground that offers full hookups in Big Bend National Park is Rio Grande Village R.V. (432-477-2291), If you do not mind boondocking, there are 2 other campgrounds in the National Park. However, they are not suggested for large RVs.

There are other many RVing options in nearby towns that you would want to visit anyway:

Big Bend Travel Park - Study Butte, 432-371-2250
Restaurant, Bar, R.V. Hookups, Showers/Laundry

Big Foot R.V. Park - Terlingua, 432-371-2518
R.V. Hookups

BJ’s R.V. Park - Terlingua, 432-371-2259
R.V. Hookups, Shower/Laundry

The Ranch R.V. Park - Marathon, 432-386-4511
R.V. Hookups, Tent Camping, Showers/Laundry

Stillwell R.V. Park and Museum - FM 2627, 432-376-2244
R.V. Hookups, Tent Camping, Groceries, Showers/Laundry, Gas

Study Butte R.V. Park - Study Butte, 432-371-2468
R.V. Hookups, Groceries, Gas

Have a great time! Do not miss the Hot Springs by the Rio Grande and the Window in the Chisos Mountains…

American Rivers Need Your Help!

River Lobby Day LogoDear River Advocate,

As you read this email, more than 100 river activists from across the country are walking the halls of Congress, meeting face-to-face with their elected officials, and delivering a common message about the need to protect and restore rivers in our communities. Join them by dialing for rivers today!

Today, we hope to generate a record number of phone calls to Members of Congress from Americans who care about healthy rivers and clean water. The powerful combination of phone calls and in-person meetings will demonstrate to Congress how much Americans care about healthy rivers in our communities and that we hold them accountable for doing their part.

Join your fellow Americans lobbying in Washington today by taking a few minutes to call your Senators and Representatives. When you call, simply tell the receptionist:

  1. Your name and hometown so they know you are a constituent.
  2. You are one of the thousands of constituents that care about healthy rivers and clean water.
  3. That you would like your senator or representative to: (a) Co-sponsor the Clean Water Authority Restoration Act, H.R. 1356 and S. 910 and (b) Oppose any efforts to weaken the Endangered Species Act, which protects the fish and wildlife that call our rivers home

You can reach your elected officials by simply calling the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask to be connected to the office of your Senators or Representatives.

Help us keep track of all calls placed to Congress. Email us at outreach@americanrivers.org and let us know which Congressional offices you called.

Thank you for being part of this landmark effort to tell Congress how important healthy rivers and clean water are to all of our communities. Together, we can make a difference.

Sincerely,

RW Signature
Rebecca R. Wodder
President
